Last Night we talked about possessing our inheritence in Bible Class. How do you feel we miss possessing what is promised to us by Chirst? Are we anxious for what He has promised, or do we believe only what we see and then proclaim that we have "received" the promise?

Good evening Pastor Gibson and all the BlogParty guest! To comment on tonight's topic, I think that we as believers miss posessing what is promised to us by Christ due to our lack of faith. Romans 4:16, in New Living Translation, tells us that the promise is received by faith. And we all are certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, IF we have faith like Abraham we are entitled to the promise.
The only way to possess our inheritance is to exercise faith which makes us believe that the promise does exist. The promise can not be seen. We have to trust and believe that God has indeed given us an inheritance and we trust God by exercising faith. We are indeed anxious to receive that which God has promised to us but we have to understand that if we lack faith then the promise is pointless. FAITH IS THE KEY TO POSSESSING OUR INHERITANCE!
Hey Pastor, this is Dasia. I wanted to answer your question because of what I learned in bible class last night.
In order for you to get God's promise you have to be baptized and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Also, you have to be Abraham's seed, I think.
Is this right what I am saying, Pastor?
Thank you for your comment Sister Sharon and welcome. Faith is certainly the key to unlocking the door of promise. If you lack the faith to believe that He is no short of His Word (Promise), then why would one even sit in expectation. When you don't believe and still expect...you are exercising wishful thinking! "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
Mark 4:34-41 shows that it does not matter if Jesus is on board with you...if you don't have faith in His promise to begin with, the moment there are storms, you'll question whether or not He cares what happens to you.
Hello Dasia and thank you also for joining us tonight. Your statement is correct...until you accept Him (Jesus) you can not be identified with His promise. As we discussed last night..in Romans 4:13-16 the promise is given to the CHILD (singular) not the children of Abraham, and that CHILD or seed is Chirst. So if we are identified with Christ, through being baptized, then we are one with Christ and that unity with Him makes an heir to the promise that is reserved for Christ!
WOOOO! You bring out a great point, Pastor. In reference to the text in Mark 4:34-41, I think the key thing that stands out is the fact that Jesus was on board the boat with "seasoned fisherman." However in this "stormy" situation they panicked. Although Jesus was among them, they underestimated His power. We, like the disciples on the boat, underestimate the power of Jesus Christ in our lives. He is so much bigger than our storms and our situation. We will experience problems, struggles, and definitely trials. However, we must not look at our situation but acknowledge the power that Jesus has to carry us "THROUGH". Here again is the importance of our faith in Him to do what He has promised to us.
Christ says in Mark 4:35, "Let us pass over to the other side." That is a promise that whatever you enounter...you are still promised arrival. The problem is that because He promises it, He does not promise that it will be a storm free journey. No matter how stormy the seas are...when Christ promises to take you somewhere, your Faith in Him will sustain you when your Mental faculties won't!
Christ knew that His Father was with Him, so therefore, He could go to sleep while others were trying to find answers to getting out of their storm. Faith will carry you through your storm...it won't take you OUT of your storm.
You are absolutely right...the promise is given but we take that promise and add our own little spice to it. We must realize that God's promises are indeed for us but our mentality on reaching the promise has to change. All of our storms and trials come to make us better, wiser, and indeed stronger individuals and also increases our faith. If we never go "through" anything, then how are we to grow and mature in Christ? It is so important that the Body of Christ understand exactly what Jesus did in this text to calm the storm they were encountering. He opened His mouth an SPOKE to it. And with the authority and power within Him, the storm suddenly stopped. Thats how simple it is...have faith in the power and authority we possess as a child of God and SPEAK to our situations.
And once the storm had calmed, the disciples were still afraid. Jesus asked them "Do you still have no faith?" After we SPEAK to our situation, we should not doubt the outcome but begin to praise and thank God for what is too come. When there is doubt, faith cannot exist.
