Good Evening...or for most of you that know me....Good Morning!
Last night we continued our discussion on "Advancing through Adversity." In our discussion, which I must say was one of the best Bible Classes we have had, we discussed the level of maturity that one must have if they are going to advance through their adversity (whatever that/them may be). Paul spoke about the children of God coming off of milk and eating meat...in other words...it's time for folk to grow up. We see so many folk year after year celebrating birthdays; however, for some, their spiritual birthdays seem to never come when you witness toddler attitudes being displayed by chronologically older folks.
Here is our thought for the evening...why does the spirit seem to go uncelebrated and cared for, but the dependence on God to "pull one through" seems to be so high? We say we trust him, but don't show signs of executing the faith that He can and will do it for us!

Good Morning!
Advancing Through Adversity series is truly a blessing for such a time as this. With all the recession and depression man is declaring among this nation, we must realize that God is still in control. The adversity is here and in order to advance through it we must know and understand what the word of God says and promises to us as believers.
As the question of tonights dicussion states, we do depend on God to bring us out of situations and believes that he will do just that. However, we tend to lack in the how to get THROUGH until He decides to bring us OUT. To come out of adversity you must go THROUGH it. Where your level of thinking is will be the determining factor.
The level of thinking is where you are spiritually. Romans 12 says to not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the RENEWING of your mind. In other words REPROGRAM HOW YOU THINK. You are so right Pastor, there are chronologically older Saints that are so young spiritually. My personal thought to this is, we dont have a choice in growing up physically. Your body will not stay as a child forever. However, to grow up spirituallly is definitely a choice that we have to make. We can choose to stay were we are in our adversity and never develop or grow. Or we look that situation right in the eye and declare that it will not take over! One point brought out in bible class last night was the fact that we ourselves are the greatest adversary to advancing through any adversity. And that is because we have this battle of the mind going on and if we just stay focused on what God's word says and the promises He has made in His word, advancing through the struggle would not be as difficult.
Again, spiritual maturity is a choice we have to make. Physical maturity is a done deal, you will not LOOK LIKE A CHILD all your life. My concern is though, HOW LONG WILL YOU ACT LIKE A CHILD!
Great comments here Sister Sharon..and you are on point with every aspect. I am certain that we all have been at a point where we used every avenue to handle our problems and then turn to God as a last result. Thanks for the great input.
